Transforming Norske Skog

2025 marks a pivotal year for Norske Skog with the completion of our largest investment since 1962 - a EUR 320 million conversion at our Golbey mill in France. This transformation shifts a former newsprint line into a state-of-the-art packaging paper line (PM1), reinforcing our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and market diversification.

With a capacity of 550,000 tonnes, PM1 strengthens Norske Skog’s position as a key player in the European packaging market, following the success of our Bruck mill, which has produced 210,000 tonnes of packaging paper since 2023. This strategic move reduces reliance on traditional newsprint while unlocking new growth opportunities.

Golbey to start containerboard production in April

Norske Skog Golbey will commence production of recycled containerboard in April and start delivery of its first customer volumes. Finalising the pre-commissioning at the containerboard machine is the main outstanding item before the project is completed and production can start. There is no change in the budget for the project.

Sale of Norske Skog Boyer

Norske Skog has entered into agreement with Boyer Capital Pty Ltd, to sell the Boyer mill at an enterprise value of approximately NOK 190 million. The transaction is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2025.

Norske Skog Skogn signs 3-year power contract

Statkraft and Norske Skog Skogn have entered into a 3-year industrial power agreement for the supply of approximately 1 TWh (40 MW) during the period 2027–2029 to the company's paper mill in Skogn (Norway). Together with previous contracts, the agreement secures a significant portion of the mill's power supply at competitive terms through 2030.

Norske Skog appeals the Norwegian Environment Agency’s Decision to exclude the two Norwegian mills from the EU Emissions Trading System to the Ministry of Climate and Environment

The Norwegian Environment Agency has issued a decision to exclude Norske Skog Skogn and Norske Skog Saugbrugs from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) for the period 2026 to 2030. The decision is based on a revised qualification criterion, which states that facilities exceeding 95% of emissions deriving from sustainable biomass no longer will qualify for free CO₂ allowances. This ruling has significant economic and competitive consequences for Norske Skog, which has invested substantial resources over several decades to become a leader in low fossil CO₂ emissions from the mills.
